Guiding Principles

Dorchester Collegiate Academy embraces a philosophy that all students are capable of achieving academic success when they are engaged in a learning community that combines high standards and expectations with holistic academic, social, and emotional support systems focused on meeting the unique needs of each student.  To realize this philosophy, the Academy has adopted Seven Guiding Principles:

Resolute Commitment to Academic Excellence

Dorchester Collegiate Academy students will pursue academic excellence in a rigorous learning environment where they must demonstrate mastery of concepts, principles, facts, and skills to such a degree that they are able to successfully apply their knowledge in unfamiliar and challenging situations.

Ethics & Character Development

Dorchester Collegiate Academy students will pursue ethical excellence by exploring the moral foundations of society in a school culture that guides students toward developing their own unique character based on these foundations.

Great Leaders and Great Teachers

Dorchester Collegiate Academy will hire exceptionally talented and passionate school leaders and teachers capable of fulfilling the Academy’s mission.

Support without Walls: Health & Wellness

Dorchester Collegiate Academy recognizes that many students will face unique social and emotional challenges (e.g., poverty and exposure to violence) and the Academy will establish comprehensive support systems to effectively respond to each student’s needs.

Relationships: Keys to Success

Dorchester Collegiate Academy will establish structures that foster meaningful and positive adult and peer relationships for all students.

Teaching with Families

Dorchester Collegiate Academy will establish an environment whereby parents and families are educational partners with faculty and staff.

College Preparation

Dorchester Collegiate Academy is committed to preparing each student–academically, emotionally, and socially–for success in a four year college or university.
